When your business starts expanding beyond your first few clients, it’s always a good idea to acquire a business phone service. Not only does this give your business a more professional presentation, but it also prevents your personal phone from getting overwhelmed by calls and messages.

Grasshopper is a favorite business phone provider for solo entrepreneurs. Let’s find out if it’s also the best service for your company’s unique needs!
Grasshopper is an outstanding option for any solo entrepreneur looking for a comprehensive business phone service. Let’s quickly run down some of its pros and cons before we take a deeper dive.
Grasshopper has three plans available for business phone service. It all starts with the $26/month Solo package, which includes one phone number and three extensions. Next up is the Partner plan for $44/month, offering three numbers and six extensions. Finally, there’s the Small Business package for $80/month, including five phone numbers with unlimited extensions.
Unlike most competitors, Grasshopper uses a flat-rate pricing model for its three business phone service plans. All three packages have the exact same features, so the only difference is how many numbers and extensions each plan provides. This is a bit disappointing because Grasshopper lacks so many common features of other VoIP services, like video calling and third-party app integrations.
Grasshopper’s business phone packages all include business texting and faxing, but that’s about it. While some competitors load up their higher-priced tiers with advanced features, Grasshopper does not. In addition, Grasshopper becomes very expensive if you need to scale beyond five phone numbers, as they cost $10/month each after that.
Grasshopper has been around since 2003. Since then, the company has served more than 350,000 businesses with phone services, making it one of the most popular VoIP phone service providers available today.
We found nearly 500 unique customer reviews for Grasshopper on reputable third-party review websites, and the company maintains an average score of 4.2 out of 5. This is a solid customer satisfaction reputation, but there are some competitors with higher volumes of feedback and/or stronger average scores.
The process of getting in touch with Grasshopper’s customer support team is a bit convoluted, as you’ll need to fill out an online form and wait for them to call you. That said, we don’t have many complaints once you get beyond that step.
Grasshopper offers 24/7 customer support, which can be a life-saver if your business phone service hits any unexpected snags. In our experience, Grasshopper representatives are informative and friendly, and we’ve always received at least reasonably efficient responses.
There wouldn’t be much point in using a business phone service if it didn’t make it cheaper and easier to communicate with your customers and vendors. Thankfully, Grasshopper does just that, with an easy-to-use interface and intuitive features.
One of the big benefits of using Grasshopper is how incredibly simple the setup process is. Grasshopper makes it easier to get started than the vast majority of competitors, and the lack of advanced features means there isn’t much of a learning curve at all. Ease of use is one of Grasshopper’s greatest strengths.
When we looked around on various third-party review aggregator websites, we found 497 unique reviews of Grasshopper’s services. Overall, these reviews maintain an average rating score of roughly 4.2 out of 5.
This is a solid reputation but there are companies that have thousands of reviews, and also some with higher rating scores. It seems that Grasshopper customers are usually very pleased with the system’s simplicity. However, we did also find some negative feedback that mostly revolved around inflexible pricing and inconsistent customer support.
Grasshopper is an outstanding option for any solo entrepreneur or small business without significant expansion plans. We will always appreciate the company’s exceptional ease of use and 24/7 customer support.
We think Grasshopper is a great company in many ways, and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to our family and friends. However, we recognize that Grasshopper won’t be the perfect choice for every entrepreneur’s business phone service needs.
