Squarespace is a favorite business website builder for anyone seeking gorgeous themes and templates. Let’s take a close look at its attributes and see if it’s the right choice to create your company’s new website!
In addition to giving your company a presence in web searches, a business website can enhance the credibility of any company, which is one of the top reasons every business should have one. If you have a good-looking website, potential customers will have more confidence in your brand and be more likely to make a purchase.
Your website is your best bet for generating leads and organic traffic these days, and it can save you a ton of time with customer support as well. Instead of calling your business and asking you questions, your customers can instead visit your website to read your operating hours, learn about your latest sales, find updates and announcements, and more.
Squarespace is an outstanding option for any small business looking for a website builder with rich, attractive templates and themes. Before we dig into the details, we’ll take a quick look at some pros and cons of its services.
Squarespace offers four tiers of website builder services, but only the top three are suitable for business use, in our opinion. These three packages are the $18/month Business plan, the $26/month Basic Commerce package, and the top-tier $40/month Advanced Commerce option.
With all three plans, you’ll receive a custom domain name, unlimited storage and bandwidth, SEO features, 24/7 customer support, professional email from Google, a broad range of integrations, fully integrated eCommerce features, and more.
Squarespace’s pricing is right in line with our expectations, considering competitors’ price points and Squarespace’s included features. While there are some competitors with lower pricing for business websites with eCommerce features (like Weebly), Squarespace still has entirely reasonable pricing, in our opinion.
What’s the difference between the top three Squarespace business website builder packages? When you step up from the $18 Business plan to the two top-tier packages, the transaction fees in your online store drop from 3% to 0%. In addition, you’ll get access to some advanced eCommerce features like a PoS app for in-person sales, customer accounts, product listings on Instagram, and more.
Finally, the $40 Advanced Commerce starts with every feature from the $26 Basic Commerce package, then adds abandoned cart recovery, subscription functionality, advanced shipping options, promotions and discounts, and custom integrations for third-party systems.
Squarespace got its start in 2003, as the company was launched out of a dorm room at the University of Maryland. Today, the company has more than 1,000 employees and hosts millions of websites, plus its stock is available on the New York Stock Exchange as of 2021.
When examining business website builder customer reviews, we like to focus on two categories: overall service reviews and feedback regarding the company’s mobile apps. Fortunately, Squarespace receives far more positive than negative feedback in both areas. While its mobile app reviews are more overwhelmingly positive than its overall service reviews, both are solid average scores with large sample sizes.
Squarespace has 24/7 customer support and says that it typically responds to all support inquiries within one hour at most. While we’re impressed by Squarespace’s round-the-clock availability and reasonably efficient response times, we’re always disappointed by the fact that Squarespace does not offer phone support at all.
No matter how helpful their representatives are via chat or email, it is simply no substitute for being able to pick up the phone and call someone. Therefore, Squarespace suffers in this category despite its 24/7 support.
There wouldn’t be much point in using a business website builder if it didn’t make it cheaper and easier to create the perfect website for your company. Thankfully, Squarespace does just that, with an easy-to-use interface and intuitive features. It also offers mobile apps with an excellent user experience.
The only area where Squarespace stumbles in this category is the fact that you cannot switch themes after you’ve already started building your site. That’s why we docked a couple of points from Squarespace for this category.
First, let’s examine the 3,871 unique customer reviews we found for Squarespace on reputable third-party review aggregator websites. Among these reviews, Squarespace earned an average rating score of roughly 4.1 out of 5 stars, which is a solid but unspectacular score in our opinion.
Meanwhile, we found more than 15,000 reviews of the Squarespace app on Google Play and the Apple App Store, with an average rating score of 4.6 out of 5 indicating widespread acclaim.
Overall, Squarespace customers often rave about the company’s reasonable pricing and solid ease of use. However, we definitely found a chunk of reviews written by people who were upset by Squarespace’s poor customer support.
Squarespace is an outstanding business website builder for any entrepreneur looking for gorgeous themes and templates. We also appreciate this company’s solid pricing and strong eCommerce functionality.
